Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served, or the gods, in whose land you are living.
But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD."
Joshua 24:15
One of the most haunting verses in scripture comes at the end of the book of Judges. It says ‘In those days there was no king, so everyone did what was right in their own eyes.’ (Judges 21:25)
Scary, isn’t it. But oddly familiar.
I see a tendency in myself to keep looking until I find an ‘expert’ to tell me what I’ve already decided I want to hear. Paul talked about it as having ‘itching ears.’
The sad truth is that I can convince myself of almost anything. Or, I can choose the Lord. Submit myself to Him. Decide that I will follow Him even when I don’t understand the ‘why,’ or ‘when,’ or ‘how.’
Let’s worship around that this Sunday. Let’s bow to Him. Declare Him Lord of our lives, our families, our world. Read the last two chapters of Joshua and the first two chapters of Judges in preparation for our time together.
